In Malta, obtaining a license for your two-way radios is essential for legal and interference-free communication. The process might seem complex, but we're here to simplify it for you.

The Licensing Authority
The Malta Communications Authority (MCA) is responsible for issuing radio licenses and assigning frequencies. They ensure spectrum usage is managed effectively, preventing interference and promoting efficient communication.
Licensing Steps
Acquire Your Radios: The first step is to purchase your two-way radios. You'll need their serial numbers for the licensing application.
Apply for a License: Submit an application to the MCA, providing details about your radios, intended use, and desired frequencies.
Frequency Assignment: The MCA will review your application and assign appropriate frequencies, ensuring they don't conflict with existing users.
Payment and License Issuance: Once your application is approved, you'll need to pay the licensing fees. The MCA will then issue you a new license or amend your existing one if you're adding radios or frequencies.
Radio Programming: With the license in hand, it's time to program your radios. If you have Customer Programming Software (CPS), you can do this yourself. Otherwise, provide the license to your supplier for programming. At Envi Innovations, we're happy to assist with programming, regardless of where you purchased your radios or their brand.
Tip: Maximize Your Spectrum with Digital Radios
In digital mode, most systems leverage Dual Capacity Direct Mode (DCDM), effectively splitting a 12.5kHz channel into two time slots. This allows two separate conversations to happen simultaneously on the same frequency without interference. While repeaters usually handle this automatically, you'll need to specify time slot 1 or 2 during programming.
